Stone Ridge Continued . . .

The hamlet is located at the top of a limestone ridge that gives reason for its name as well as contribution to the historic community. One of the main reasons for the area's settlement and was its placement along the earliest central route of the Old Mine Road, later called the King's Highway. Main Street Stone Ridge, which drives along modern day Route 209, is a part of the former Kings Highway, one of the oldest transportation routes in the United States. Today, the road follows the route of what used to be an Indian trail, before the European settlers arrived. It extended from the Minisink area of the Delaware River to Kingston, located on the Hudson, and from there it followed the river north ultimately leading to Canada. By following the varying creeks and kills along the way, the route offered a relatively level and even landscape favorable to travel and settlement.

Stone Ridge NY is one of the many places in Ulster County that retains authentic examples of architecture from each phase of its historic growth. The district has maintained its overall setting, and streetscape and has endured as a prime illustration of rural eighteenth century village growth.

The current Stone Ridge NY real estate market maintains a steady pace despite the fluxuations in the national real estate market.  The community involvement and strict zoning protect the interest of those who choose to buy, live and invest in Stone Ridge NY real estate.
