Kerhonkson NY: Kerhonkson is a hamlet located within the Town of Rochester along the historic Rondout Creek. Kerhonkson began as an outgrowth from a hamlet in the neighboring township of Wawarsing. In the early days of the community, the growth of hamlet along the towpath of the D and H Canal was small in comparison to others. At the time, Rochester had the only two covered bridges that spanned across the Rondout. One was located at Alligerville and another at Port Jackson (now Accord). The communities grew as a result of the use of these bridges. The southward expansion of the Town of Rochester pushed towards Wawarsing substantiating the existence of the hamlet of Kerhonkson.
