The town is situated in the western part of Ulster County within the now protected Catskill Park region and was finally settled around 1802. Hardenburgh was officially established years later in 1859, comprised of land concessions made by the Towns of Denning and Shandaken.
Modern day Hardenburgh is a hub of small business and light industry. The Hardenburgh real estate market consistently trails other more favoured Ulster County real estate markets providing a good deal of home and land buying opportunity.
