Glasco NY Real Estate - Glasco is a hamlet located within the Town of Saugerties just east of US Route 9W and north of Kingston. The name was believed to be taken from a glass manufacturing company that was native to the area early in the hamlet's development. The transporting of the glass to and from the glass company came by way of horse and wagon traveling up and down the banks of the Hudson River giving name to the route Glasco Turnpike? (one of my favorite drives in Ulster County). Read more about Glasco . . .

Glasco Continued . . .
In the 1880's, another local trade sprung up to support much of the new development that was going on in Ulster County. The Washburn Brothers and Empire State Brick Company started their brickyards which marked the beginning of a thriving brick industry in Glasco. Staples and Hutton Brickyards were soon to follow and became established in the area. At one point, it was said, that the areas of Glasco and Malden had over six brick yards, a ferry service, a school , several churches and of course saloons.
By the mid 20th century, most of the brick yards had all shut down. The Washburn company, supposedly relocated to Virginia to continue brick making. Other brickyards were abandoned and disappeared.
Recently, second home buyers from NYC have begun to purchase weekend residences in Glasco. The area appealed to New Yorkers due to it proximity to the Catskill Mountains, Woodstock and the Hudson River. In the past 8 years, the Glasco real estate market has changed dramatically causing a surge in single-family home construction.
