The hamlet is mostly comprised of several small businesses and farmland. The Clintondale Fruit Growers' Cooperative, Inc. is the largest of its kind east of the Mississippi. Ardonia (another Hamlet of Plattekill), is also a flourishing fruit center.

Its location makes access to the NYS Thruway and Metro Noth Trains easy and more affordable then neighboring Dutchess County (just over the Mid-Hudson Bridge).
