ULSTER COUNTY REAL ESTATE: WOODSTOCK, WEST HURLEY AND ZENA NEIGHBORHOODS

Most people familiar with homes in the Woodstock area think of soaring Contemporaries perched on the mountain with fabulous views or eclectic cottages or farmhouses transformed by their arts and crafts heritage into unique and charming residences, but the Woodstock, West Hurley and Zena areas also contain subdivisions and neighborhoods developed with families in mind in the 50’s, 60’s. 70’s and 80’s where Colonials, Ranches, Raised Ranches and Split Levels created that desired suburban neighborhood so many sought.  Well, those neighborhoods are still very much in demand but have transformed over time.  These neighborhoods provide a rural atmosphere, now pleasantly evolved with beautiful mature landscaping, lovely trees, sunny open spaces and shady wooded areas as well.  Most lots range in size from 0.50 acre to 1.5 acres providing just enough space yet very manageable as well.

When you think of a suburban neighborhood, you often think “cookie cuter” houses and lawns, however, Ulster County provides very few “cookie cuter” neighborhoods, in part because of the diverse topography of the county.  Ulster County has flat farm fields and valleys but also contains the rocky ledges of the Shawangunk Ridge, the high peaks of the Catskill Mountains and a variety of mountain streams carving their way through the country landscape as well.  With this range of unique topographical characteristics it gives little chance of creating a bland, unimaginative “cookie cuter” effect.  In fact, when traveling through the Woodstock, West Hurley and Zena neighborhoods, you’re never far from a farmhouse or two tucked in or alongside.

Some of the neighborhoods in the area are known as Hurley Ridge, Holly Hills, Maverick Park, Pleasant Ridge, Zena and Zena-Highwoods, These neighborhoods provide a convenient location for an easy and short commute into the City of Kingston for shopping or Exit 19 of the New York State Thruway for a drive into NYC.   Some might say it’s “the best of both worlds”; country atmosphere, suburban convenience and a whole lot of great homes.  So when you’re zoning in on Ulster County real estate and hoping to find a great neighborhood, don’t forget to consider the Woodstock, West Hurley and Zena areas, I think you’ll be pleasantly surprised!
