Are looking for something to do? Take a ride up North to the Ulster County Area. No matter what season there's always something to do in one of our many towns that surround the Ulster County Area.
In the winter months if skiing or snowboarding is what you prefer you'll enjoy heading west on Route 28 to the Belleayre Mountain in Highmount. Don't forget to stop on your way skiing to the small town of Phoenicia for a bite to eat a "smaller version of nearby Woodstock: quiet and rural, with a hippie vibe and artsy edge."
The surrounding Catskill Mountains (including Slide Mountain) are a spectacular backdrop to this vibrant hamlet that bustles on the weekends. Phoenicia is famous in the summer time months for its tubing, fishing, camping and quaint shops.
The spring is the best time of year to visit Ulster County if you love to fish. You'll enjoy trout fishing in the many fishing spots along the streams and creek sides of Shokan, Phoenicia, Lake Katrine and the Saugerties area of the Esopus Creek. The Esopus Creek in Ulster County is known for one of the best rainbow and brown trout fishing in the country.
In the summer, travel 90 minutes north from New York City, New Paltz shines as one of the jewels of Ulster County. You'll enjoy the activities New Paltz has to offer from swimming in the lakes, hiking and biking the many trails and taking in New Paltz's spectacular mountain views. Visit the area farms, orchards, and wineries. Stroll the village and enjoy the many restaurants and cafes, shops and art galleries. There's always a festival or fair to attend all summer long.
I love visiting the Woodstock Area in the Fall when the Woodstock Film festival is going on. Each year film and music lovers from around the world gather at the Woodstock Film Festival for an innovative variety of films, first-class concerts, workshops, celebrity-led panels, an awards ceremony, and fantastic parties. Also in the fall, visit the neighboring town of Saugerties where you'll enjoy the Garlic Festival that attracts thousands of visitors from all over for the two day event. There are food vendors selling delicious and unique garlic foods, craft vendors selling clothing, jewelry and souvenirs. Also, some great musical acts, entertainment and lectures giving by garlic specialists to teach people about the importance of garlic.

I love upstate New York. It's one of the most beautiful places in the United States. Everytime I've been there its either been in the middle of summer (great) or winter (not so great). I'd really love to visit in the fall to see the colors. Someday. Can you recommend a good winery in Ulster County? I'm from Southern California Wine Country...we have a lot of great wineries here. I'd love to try some from your part of the country. Thanks for posting. -Joe McDermott

Upstate NY is great in the winter. Skiing, snowmobiling, ice skating. You just have to find the right places!

Ulster County seems like a lot of fun! Trout fishing is one of my favorite hobbies, along with my dad and cousins. We're hoping to visit Ulster after our other possible trips. Hope we'll be in time for Spring.
