After the Purchase
Welcome Home!
You have gone through the entire process of purchasing a home and it is now yours. Make sure to hold on to all the paperwork you received at closing as you will need them for end of the year taxes. You will also need them if you plan on selling in the future so make sure you keep them in a safe place. Wait approximately two weeks then check with the property records office to ensure the title was successfully transferred.
Make sure there are no outstanding utility bills in the previous owner’s name and that all utilities are transferred into yours. This will make the moving process much smoother. Before moving in, take a walk through the house and see if there are any improvements that need to be made immediately or any cleaning that needs to be done before moving in all your belongings.
When moving into a new home, this is a perfect opportunity to get organized. Making a video record of your property and belongings can help immensely if an insurance claim is needed. Make sure to keep this in a safe place.
